London used to be home to a good many great breweries. Alas, it is no longer is. But good breweries do exist and although some have closed in recent years others are opening. My aim is to note the current brewing operations in Greater London as of my posting date. For other breweries see: and

Some of the breweries listed below are not open to the public or on a limited basis. Others have a pub or restaurant open to all. Some offer tours usually requiring pre-booking and fee. Please check their websites for the latest details.

Covent Garden Underground Station
A modern restaurant – bar that is visually impressive. The roots of this pub grew in Dublin, Ireland yet the make-up of the facilities is firmly Industrial England. I am not taking the space required to say what needs to be said about the beers. The impressive menu displays a good range of draft ale and a great bottle selection that should satisfy anyone’s thirst.

It is a ten-minute walk from Clapham Junction train station, a short bus ride from Victoria on the No. 170 bus or a twenty-minute walk from Wandsworth Town train station.

As this is a working brewery only, tours and beer tastings will be announced on the web site. Or just call and see if they will let you in. You may be charged for the tour but you may also get a glass and a few pints. CAMRA members received a discount.

The first beer made by partners Duncan Sambrook and David Welsh was Wandle Ale, a 3.8%ABV bitter.
